I wanted to share a fun DIY that I completed. It was simple, affordable, fun and turned our great! You could do this with your kids, your mom, or even your “non-crafty” friends!
What is nice is that this DIY is completely customizable … If you have a specific outfit that needs a necklace, make one for it! It’s all up totally up to you.
This DIY was inspired by a post I saw over at A Beautiful Mess. I love their site, it is amazing! I have pinned so many of their DIY’s that I can’t wait to try. #obsessed
DIY Chunky Statement Necklace
- Wooden beads (Look in the wood section of a craft store)
- Paint colors of choice
- Glossy Mod Podge
- Cord of choice
- Wax paper
- paint brushes
As always, gather your supplies,
grab some wine, turn on some music, and then get to work.
1) Paint your beads
First, decide what colors you are want to do, and then get painting! Yes, your fingers will get dirty, but that makes it more fun! I decided to create 2 necklaces. One will be silver/gold, and one will be gray/purple. Paint about 2 coats of the paint on each bead (and let it dry in between).
2) Make them glossy
Once they are dry, grab your Mod Podge and paint 1-2 coats to seal up the beads. This will also give them a nice, sassy shine! I put mine on a stick so I could spin them as I painted them. It worked sort of nice, actually.
3) Pick your cord & assemble
Look over all of the beads to make sure they are properly painted and covered. Then start assembling! Pick what type of cord you are going to use, and also what length. I decided to use brown cord for my purple/gray necklace, and black cord for my silver/gold necklace. I also doubled up my cord to make it a little thicker.
4) Pick your length
Measure and figure out what length of necklace you want. I like longer necklaces, so mine is about 25-30 inches long. I used a necklace I already had and measured that just to make sure I was happy with the length. Then knot the end, put it on, and look awesome!
I think this necklace would look great paired with a chambray shirt and either a maxi skirt or some leggings. And the best part? It was super easy, affordable, and made my YOU.
Let me know if you try it out!
Till next time!
